Power for dropping second.
Well I always play pure characters(ones that don't use their second profession) and I was thinking about a way you can get benefits by dropping your second profession. This would be achieved maybe somewhere in fissure of woe by talking to a spirit of you primary class. When you talk to it you get the choice to drop your second profession for benefits. This is some list I made:
Warrior- Legend, 1.5 adrenalin per hit instead of one, +30 onto life, +5% armor piercing
Ranger- Survivalist, -2 energy cost for all skills, 10% increase in running speed, +10 life and +2 energy
Monk- Saint(can't think of a woman one maybe prophet for both), +20 life everytime use a monk spell, +2 life regeneration, +2 health whenever hit (reducing damage by two)
Elementalist- couldn't think of a good name, +1 energy regeneration, +10% to elemental damage, -30 life and -10 armor (to negate the effects of +1 regeneration because that is a big effect)
Necromancer- Lich, +1 energy regeneration for -1 life degeneration, improved casting and recharging speed +10%, +30 life
Mesmer- Arcanist, +1 energy gained for inspiration skills, +5 energy, improved casting speed 20%
Anyone like this?

since your secondary profession can be ignored except for the little note that you are a x/? without any penalty all you are really asking for is a buff
were you one of the ones a while ago screaming because you couldnt have a PURE character?
i would go for the loss of the secondary to make you happy but no way to give any advantage over someone who has both.
after all getting rid of it would be your choice not a game requirement

Good idea, but you might want to fine-tune the abilities for each profession.

If you want a 'pure' character make a PvP-only char, you dont have to choose a secondary for them.
This would totally screw the balance of the game if implemented. Just imagine a team of 8 PvE chars all with their 'pure' character bonus going into Tombs against an all PvP-only character team with no bonus - anyone else see a problem?

How about a +1 to the primary instead. And you give them an actual negative...

No I never heard of this complaint I was just trying to offer an idea that I thought people may like. You don't have to accuse me for putting a thought out there.

I guess your right, except about the making pvp character thing. I don't mind the second profession but I thought a lot of people relied on using the second so I thought you could get benefits from just using the first.

it doesn't matter what you do, it will end up either being over powered, or useless.
besides, many pvp builds rely only on the primary (90% of elementalists, lots of necros and lots of prot monks). they will be getting a bonus for sacrificing nothing...
that's my opinion anyway...

I'm not even satisfied with the current symbiosis between primary and secondary classes. Like OP and mortalis mentioned, I find many builds being very effective without secondary skills. I think that defeats the purpose of having secondary class in GW as a whole.
The idea promoted by OP is not bad by itself but in the opposite direction of what I expect from GW (greater complemention between primary and secondary classes)

complemention is not a word. what you were looking for was "greater compliments between primary and secondary classes"
and i think it's perfect as is.

i dont like having my words twisted.
i think the combination of professions is wonderfull, and adds a huge amount of depth into GW.
if we weren't able to have secondary classes, think about all the builds we could have been missing out on:
1. energy management for monks
2. resolve trappers
3. illusionary weaponary mesmer
4. fragility mesmer (historic... but still...)
5. W/E
6. W/N
7. W/R (i have no problems with iway, but that's another story...)
8. W/Mo (op[s, how did that slip in there??? *pve only*)
9. resmers
10. FoC spikers.
i'm bored, so i'll stop writing.
you get the picture though...
